StoryPal is an on-demand audio story platform. We help you create, publish, and share narrative audio stories on any topic you care about. To do that well, we collect and use certain information about you. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and what choices you have.
This Policy applies to all visitors and users of story-pal.ai, our phone-based story creation service (508-938-8784), our podcast distribution tools, and any other services we operate that link to this Policy (collectively, the "Services"). Using StoryPal is also subject to our Terms of Use.
Questions? Email us at support@story-pal.ai.
Account information. When you sign in — including through Google OAuth — we receive your name, email address, and profile picture. We store this to identify your account and personalize your experience.
Story prompts and content. The prompts you submit to create stories, notes you add to stories, and any other text you provide through the Services are stored so we can generate and display your content.
Creator profile information. If you set up a creator profile, you may provide additional information such as a bio, website URL, social handles, and a profile photo. This information may be visible to other users.
Payment information. Subscription payments are processed by Stripe. We collect your billing email and the last four digits of your card for display purposes. We never store your full card number, CVV, or billing address — Stripe handles all sensitive payment data under PCI-DSS standards.
Communications. If you contact us for support, report an issue, or respond to a survey, we receive the contents of those communications including your name, email, and any attachments. We use this to resolve your request and improve the Services.
Newsletter subscription. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address for the sole purpose of sending you StoryPal updates. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Usage data. We collect information about how you interact with the Services: pages visited, features used, stories played, favorites added, session duration, and similar activity. This helps us understand how the product is used and where to improve it.
Device and browser data. We collect information about the device and browser you use to access StoryPal, including your IP address, operating system, browser type and version, language preferences, and unique device identifiers.
Location information. We infer your general location (city and country) from your IP address. We use this to improve story relevance and for analytics. We do not collect precise GPS location.
Cookies and similar technologies. We use session and persistent cookies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and analyze usage. Tracking pixels may be used in emails to measure open rates. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not work as expected. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party behavioral tracking for ad targeting.
Inferences. Based on your activity on StoryPal — topics you explore, genres you prefer, stories you replay — we may draw inferences about your interests to personalize story recommendations and featured content.
OAuth providers. When you sign in through Google or another OAuth provider, that provider shares certain profile data with us based on your settings and permissions. We only request what we need: name, email, and profile picture. For details on what these providers share, refer to their own privacy policies.
Phone calls. If you create a story by calling 508-938-8784, Twilio processes your call and provides us with your phone number and a transcription of your responses. We use this solely to generate your story. See Twilio's privacy policy for how they handle call data.
Analytics providers. We may use third-party analytics tools to help us understand aggregate usage patterns. These providers receive de-identified or pseudonymized data.
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
Aggregated and de-identified data. We may combine, aggregate, or de-identify information so that it can no longer reasonably be linked to you. We may use and share de-identified data freely — for example, to publish usage statistics, conduct research, or improve our AI models. We will not attempt to re-identify de-identified data.
AI improvement. We do not use your story content or prompts to train third-party AI models. We may use aggregated, de-identified usage patterns to improve our own prompt engineering and story quality systems.
We do not sell your personal information. We disclose information only in the following circumstances:
We share information with trusted third-party vendors who help us operate the Services, including cloud infrastructure (AWS), AI generation (OpenAI, ElevenLabs), phone processing (Twilio), web search (Tavily), payment processing (Stripe), authentication (NextAuth/Google), and web hosting (Vercel). These providers may only use your information to perform services on our behalf and are bound by appropriate data protection agreements.
Stories you create are displayed publicly in the StoryPal story library by default, including your story content and the genre you selected. If you approve a story for podcast distribution, it will appear in the corresponding RSS feed and may be ingested by podcast platforms such as Spotify and Apple Podcasts. You can delete your stories at any time from your account.
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to: (i) comply with a legal obligation; (ii) protect the rights, property, or safety of StoryPal, our users, or others; (iii) enforce our Terms of Use or other agreements; or (iv) detect, investigate, or prevent fraud, security incidents, or illegal activity. This may include sharing information with law enforcement agencies, regulators, or other third parties.
If StoryPal is involved in a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, financing, or other business combination, your information may be shared with or transferred to the counterparty as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or a prominent notice on our website before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy, and we will request that the receiving party honor this Policy.
We may share your information with third parties when you have given us explicit consent to do so, such as when you choose to connect a third-party publishing integration.
We may share aggregated or de-identified information — which cannot reasonably identify you — with any third party, including partners, researchers, and the public, at our discretion.
You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate data, and request deletion of your account and associated data. To make any of these requests, email us at support@story-pal.ai. We will respond within 30 days. Note that we may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as fraud prevention.
Email marketing. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by emailing support@story-pal.ai with "Unsubscribe" in the subject line. Unsubscribing from marketing does not affect transactional communications such as receipts, account notices, and policy updates, which you will continue to receive.
You can delete any story you created at any time from your account dashboard. Deleted stories are removed from the public library. Note that stories approved for podcast distribution may have been indexed by third-party platforms before deletion — we cannot guarantee removal from external caches.
If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, or certain other U.S. states, you may have additional rights under applicable state privacy laws, including the right to:
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@story-pal.ai. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests. If you are an authorized agent submitting a request on someone's behalf, you must provide written proof of authorization.
The Services may contain links to third-party websites, social platforms, or podcast directories. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, privacy practices, or security. Clicking a third-party link leaves our Services and subjects you to the third party's policies. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any site you visit.
StoryPal integrates with third-party services (listed in Section 3) to deliver core functionality. Your use of those integrations is also governed by the applicable third party's terms and privacy policy.
StoryPal is intended for users who are at least 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@story-pal.ai and we will promptly delete that information.
StoryPal is operated in the United States and our servers are located in the United States. If you access the Services from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using the Services, you acknowledge and consent to this transfer. We implement appropriate safeguards for international data transfers as required by applicable law.
Security. We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These include HTTPS encryption for all data in transit, AWS IAM access controls and encryption at rest for stored data, and secure session management via NextAuth. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of information transmitted over the internet. You use the Services at your own risk.
Retention. We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services. Stories and audio files are stored indefinitely so your content is preserved — you can delete them at any time. If you close your account, we will delete your personal profile data within 30 days, though we may retain certain information as required by law, for fraud prevention, or to resolve disputes. De-identified and aggregated data may be retained indefinitely.
We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy at any time. When we make changes, we will post the revised Policy on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. If we make material changes — such as changes to how we use your personal information — we will notify you by email or through a prominent notice within the Services before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Services after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
This section supplements the Privacy Policy for California residents under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA).
In the past 12 months, we have collected the following categories of personal information: identifiers (name, email, IP address); internet and device activity data (usage logs, browser/device info); commercial information (subscription and transaction history); content you provide (story prompts, profile info, communications); and inferences drawn from the above (story preferences, genre interests).
StoryPal does not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes. We therefore have no opt-out mechanism for "sales" or "sharing" because neither occurs.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information as defined under the CPRA (such as government IDs, financial account numbers, precise geolocation, or health data). If you voluntarily include such information in a story prompt or communication, we handle it consistent with this Policy.
California Civil Code Section 1798.83 permits California residents to request information about our disclosure of personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
Under California Civil Code Section 1789.3, California users may contact the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or by telephone at (916) 445-1254.
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal that indicates a user's preference not to be tracked across websites. We do not currently respond to DNT signals because there is no consistent industry standard for how to interpret them. We will revisit this as standards evolve. We do, however, limit our use of tracking technologies to what is necessary to operate and improve the Services, as described in Section 1(b).
